Promotion of Awareness

for Cognitive Impairment

Introduction

Cognitive impairment has been becoming an increasingly concerning global issue. It is recognized as “World Alzheimer’s Day” on 21 September annually. MindAge is collaboratively with Active Community Group launching an event to raise the awareness of cognitive impairment, providing information and screening tests to the older people and their families. It promotes early detection and timely intervention.

Contents

1. Educational talk of cognitive impairmentIdentify the differences between cognitive impairment and forgetfulness

    • Recognize the warning signs of cognitive impairment
    • Understand the types of cognitive impairment, symptoms at different stages, and behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia
    • Introduce various pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment methods

2.   Screening tests

3. Including 2-session educational talks, screening test, experiential cognitive training game and complimentary refreshment

Memory Clinic

Service Contents

Use a series of internationally recognized assessment tools to assess the cognitive, physical and mental health functions as well as self-care ability of people with early symptoms of dementia.

Service Targets

People who suspected showing early signs of dementia and not yet having a medical diagnosis

Remarks

1. If the cognitive assessment report confirms that the family member is prone to cognitive impairment, the following two referrals will be recommended depending on the level of cognitive impairment.

2. Participate in cognitive training activity held by MindAge

3. Express referral to a geriatrician for further medical diagnosis and follow up

Dementia Support Program – Day Care Cognitive Training Program

Contents

1. Through a series of structured and multi-component cognitive training program including reality orientation, memory training, brain exercises, reminiscence activities, and mind games, the cognition of people living with dementia could be delayed as well as fostering their social engagement.

2. Remarks: Including four training sessions, cognitive assessment test reports, complimentary refreshment, and transport pick-up (depending on individual areas)

Service Targets

People with mild to moderate cognitive impairment who have self-care ability

Healthy Brain – Preventive Cognitive Training Program

Contents

1. Through a series of interesting training activities including brain health training, cognitive training, mind games, it aims at preventing the deterioration of cognition and fostering social network of the older adults.

2. Including four training sessions, screening test reports, complimentary refreshment and transport pick-up (depending on individual areas)

Older people living in the community who have self-care ability

 

Dementia Carer Support Workshop

Contents

1. Understanding about dementia, effective daily caring skills and communication skills with people living with dementia, stress management skills

2. Including four sessions and complimentary refreshment
